All I can think right now is wow.....this book was awesome! I have never read anything by this author,but it sounded promising, well it delivered 100%! I am a night owl with insomnia,so while scrolling through Amazon I stumbled upon this book and paid the 99 cents. I figured if it was good,then yay for me ,and if it sucked,I was only out a dollar. So,around 2am,while my family blissfully snores down the hall,I settled in for a night of reading. I was hooked from the start! I couldn't put it down. I will openly admit to being spooked by the paranormal,and believing in it as well. Since childhood I have had my own personal experiences with spirits and the unseen. Yet,I,at 2in the morning,all alone began to read....and whether you are a believer or not, JL Bryan will make you one!!!! This book has everything you could ask for in a horror story. Family buys creepy old Georgian mansion and intends to open a B&B. Except,something doesn't want them there. The young daughter is the first to notice things,and when she told her family they,like many adults,believed it was just her nerves because of the move and the "newness" of the house. Well,pretty soon the mother begins to believe her daughter might be telling the truth. So, in step s Ellie Jordan and Stacey Talbert -ghost trappers!I don't want to say anymore and give out spoilers. I know it kept me hooked,and a couple of times my mind played tricks,which is to be expected reading a wonderful book of this genre in the pitch dark,the only light the glow from my kindle. When someone can write a book that gets you going to the point of hearing your own "bumps in the night",that is an author! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a wonderfully spooky,suspenseful book that gets your heart racing and makes you look over your own shoulders a couple of times. In this day,it is so hard to find a good horror,anything! But,this one was for me. Thanks JL I absolutely loved it! Off to get the second one ,'Cold Shadows'. And as always,to my fellow readers......HAPPY READING!!!!! :)

I have read the first three books in this series because they came as a set for free on Bookbub. I read through all three compelled by my OCD. While I grew fond of the characters, I suggest this series, books 1-3 anyway, is best for a middle school audience; as such, I would give it a five star rating. However, as an adult who prefers much more subtle foreshadowing, demands thinking, and contains more plausibility in the realistic fiction genre, three stars is a fair judgement. The bigger enjoyment came from being able to pull up images on my tablet of the places and settings mentioned allowing a sense of being there with the characters.
I am writing this review of Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper after I have already binge read five books in this series, hmm, enough said, right? I picked up this book a while ago, and I have been saving it for a possible reading challenge read. After several disappointing reading attempts to get a paranormal/horror fix, I decided to give this story a try. I was hooked from the start. Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper was a lot spookier than I ever expected and was everything I ever wanted in ghost hunting fun.
At the start of the story Ellie was investigating a possible haunting. She has brought along her apprentice Stacey to see if there was a true haunting taking place at an older mansion in Savannah, Georgia. Ellie was not too thrilled about the prospect of having Stacey around because she did not want an assistant to begin with but Ellie’s boss was looking to retire and he wanted to make sure Ellie had all the support she needed before he was gone.
I love how Ellie approaches the ghost haunting business. She is very thorough and knowledgeable in spirits and how to manage them. I seriously felt like she could have been a real person who was a ghost hunter. As it turns out the house was indeed haunted and it was a case for Stacey and Ellie. What they thought was going to be a simple specter trapping turned out to be a much bigger deal than they ever expected. With a family’s life at stake and time running out, Ellie would have to solve the mystery of who was responsible for haunting the estate.
There was a mixture of spirits in this story but yay, there were no Casper the Friendly Ghost type of specters. There was true evil in that mansion and plenty of suffering to go around. I loved the twist in this story that took the story from spooky to the type of stuff that could cause you to have some bad dreams. It was extremely entertaining and as soon as I finished Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper I immediately picked up the next book in the series to read. I couldn’t get enough and I read books one through five in three days. I would have read the entire series if I didn’t have other bookish commitments to turn to. I loved every book that I read and I recommend the Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper series to anyone who wants to get their spook on!
This is a decent novel. Pleasant to read, the story moves right along. There is one scene at an old asylum that gives the reader a definite sense of menace. Like a good B movie, the plot has enough twists to keep your interest, thought the writing as a whole is a bit bland. The issues are a distinct lack of atmosphere. It is set in the deep south, but except for the mention of a couple of landmarks, it would be set in Nebraska. There is no trace of the unique culture of the South, and the setting is nothing that could not be gathered by reading a local guide book. The author is writing as a female protagonist, but there is nothing distinctive there, the character could be changed to John with no impact. Supporting characters tend to be cliched caricatures.
Still, the story is good, the style is breezy, and there are a couple of thrills along the way. Good Summer reading.
